Ice Boy Told To Leave New School Because Of (Too Much) Media Attention

The “Ice Boy”, whose photo went viral for his icy journey to school in an impoverished area of western China, has been asked to leave his new private school after just one week!

Wang Fuman, aged 8, was asked to leave the private school as the headmaster says, they could not cope with the media attention that the boy was getting.

The Fuman’s life became known to the world for his heartbreaking story of walking for 4.5km to school from his home in the remote mountain village of Zhuanshanbao in subzero weather. A photo of him showing up to school all red-faced, with frosted hair and eyebrows, melted hearts everywhere.

He was then enrolled at Xinhua School in Zhaotong in southwestern Yunnan province late last month, after the school’s headmaster learned of the boy’s hardship.

However last Tuesday, the boy’s father, Wang Gangkui was asked to pick Fuman up to take him back to his state school instead.

The frustrated father said, “I’m illiterate and I don’t understand why this school has kicked us out”.

Fuman shocked also said, “The teachers taught better than those at Zhuanshanbao Primary School. Pupils don’t talk in class and everyone is focused on studying.”

“I lived there and didn’t need to walk a long way to get to school. I only needed to join running exercises every morning.”

He added, “I ate better, too. Unlike at home, when my granny is busy, my sister and I need to find food for ourselves … because we don’t know how to cook, we just boil potatoes, but at Xinhua school I ate so many different things.”

According to reports, Xinhua School’s headmaster, who asked to be identified with his surname Yang said he only offered to take the boy in for free because he wanted to “do some good”.

But because of the overwhelming media attention, he could not longer deal with the inconvenience.
